Song # 2336 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Genesis chapter 20 that King Abimelech was told that Sarah, was Abraham’s sister.
(Previously, in chapter 12 we read that when Abram and Sarai entered Egypt, Abram told Sarai to be known as his sister - See Song #1078.1- Abram In Egypt - https://youtu.be/6S3Ev5YTsNM).
Abraham moved into the region of the Negev, and for a while he stayed in Gerar (Genesis 20:1), and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah “She is my sister.” Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her (Genesis 20:2). But god came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman” (Genesis 20:3). Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he said “Lord” (Genesis 20:4), “did he not say to me ‘She is my sister’ and didn’t she also say ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands” (Genesis 20:5). Then God said to him in the dream “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her” (Genesis 20:6). “Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live” (Genesis 20:7).
Thought for today: we can’t see God’s hand, but we can trust His heart.
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?
