How can it be said of King David that he was a man after God’s own heart when his “rap sheet” included murder, lying, stealing, even adultery?

It’s all about repentance.

Sometimes we think that repentance is only for someone who has yet to come to faith in Jesus Christ.

But the truth of the matter is that repentance is an essential part of living the Christian life.

Learning how to genuinely repent is the focus of this message as we take a deep dive into David’s story in the aftermath of his one nightstand with the married Bathsheba.

Did you know that for nearly a full year David lived his life as if nothing ever happened?

That is until he is courageously confronted by the prophet Nathan.

How David responded to that confrontation has much to teach us about the difference between godly sorrow and worldly sorrow — about genuine repentance and not-so-genuine repentance.

And these four principles are essential to living a God honoring life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Here are the four principles of Godly sorrow with supporting scripture outlined in this King David Bible study message.

Four Principles of Godly sorrow:

1. Godly sorrow starts with a broken heart.
Psalm 51 verses 16-17

2. Godly sorrow makes no excuses.
Psalm 51 verse 3-4

3. Godly sorrow is willing to accept whatever consequences God deems appropriate.
2 Samuel 12 verses 15-20

4. Godly sorry always results in genuine change in a person’s life.
Matthew 3 verse 8

4 Principles of Godly Sorrow is the eleventh in our Bible Study on the Life of King David. And it was filmed live at One Thing for Men in Alpharetta Georgia, with Hutch Matteson leading our discussion.
