I. THE PASSION OF CHRIST (Psalm 16:1-4)

A. The Saviour’s Prayer (Psalm 16:1)

1. His request—“Preserve me, O God” (Matthew 26:36-46).
2. His declaration—“for in thee do I put my trust” (see Matthew 27:43).

B. The Saviour’s Goodness (Psalm 16:2-3)

1. Not to the benefit of the Father (Psalm 16:2)
2. To the benefit of mankind (Psalm 16:3)

C. The Saviour’s Sacrifice (Psalm 16:4)

1. The hurt of idolaters—“Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god.”

2. He would not be moved (Psalm 16:8; Acts 2:25).
3. His heart was glad and His glory rejoiced (Psalm 16:9; Acts 2:26).

B. The Saviour’s Burial—“my flesh shall rest” (Psalm 16:9-10; Acts 2:26-27)

1. The journey of His flesh—“my flesh shall rest” (Psalm 16:9; Acts 2:26).
2. The journey of His soul—thou wilt not leave my soul in hell” (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27).

C. The Saviour’s Resurrection (Psalm 16:9-10)

1. The hope of His flesh (Psalm 16:9; Acts 2:26)
2. The absence of corruption (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27); The flesh that rested in hope was not allowed to see corruption.
3. The soul was not left in hell (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27). The soul that had been to hell and to paradise joined with a glorified body in the resurrected Saviour.

D. The Saviour’s Ascension (Psalm 16:11; Acts 2:28; see Acts 2:33-36 with Psalm 110:1)

1. He would see the path of life.
2. He would find fulness of joy and pleasures for evermore in the Father’s presence.
