Acts 15:17 reads "That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things."
When is the name of the Lord called upon someone who seeks after the Lord? In order to answer this question, one must understand that the Greek word translated as "called" means to invoke. When is the name of Jesus invoked upon or over someone who believes?
When we compare Scripture with Scripture, we can learn that this happens when we are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, where the name of Jesus is invoked over and upon someone. In this video we will look at how water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sins and learn how calling upon the name of Jesus, getting baptized in the name of Jesus, and having the name of Jesus invoked over us is all referring to the same experience of being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Below is a list of Scriptures we can compare Acts 15:17 with to see how interconnected God's Word is regarding the born again experience and how having the name of the Lord (Jesus) invoked upon or over us takes place when we get baptized by calling upon the name of Jesus. The Spirit, the water, and the blood agree together when we obey the gospel by faith! Being born of the water happens when we get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins. Being born of the Spirit happens when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and begin speaking in other tongues, and the blood of Jesus is applied to our lives and remits our sins in water baptism. This is the born again experience where all three agree together in one salvation experience. Please join me in this video as we dig deeper into these things.
Acts 2:21
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God.
1 John 5:8
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Romans 10:13-16
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Romans 6:3-11
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
