Our Father, you are not limited by space or bound by time, nor can change be ascribed to your being. With infinite wisdom and boundless knowledge you govern all created space. Every heart you search. Every thought you sift. Every inward desire you discern. In the image of God you made us, but we have been weighed in the balance and found wanting. By failing to be kind to our neighbors and patient with our friends we have sinned. Our thoughts have been foul, our words inconsiderate, our deeds inexcusably rude. O, how the gold has grown dim! You have seen the bitterness we harbor, the resentment we nurture, and the discord we unjustly promote. Callous, crude, and self-centered have we been, insisting on our own way. With puzzling frequency we have rejoiced at wrongdoing and not with the truth. By refusing to bear, believe, and brave all things we have disparaged our neighbor and dishonored your name. Please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Minister: What is justifying faith?
Unison: Justifying faith is a saving grace, wrought in the heart of a sinner by the Spirit and word of God, whereby he, being convinced of his sin and misery, and of the disability in himself and all other creatures to recover him out of his lost condition, not only assents to the promise of the gospel, but receives and rests upon Christ and his righteousness, therein held forth, for pardon of sin, and for the accepting and accounting of his person righteous in the sight of God for salvation.
