In this video we will examine a common proof text that Calvinists use to teach the doctrine of unconditional election. We will see it in its proper context (in light of
Acts 4:27) and how it is referring to the death of Jesus Christ. The death of Jesus Christ is what was determined before to be done. This verse is not teaching that God chose certain individuals to be saved outside of Christ before the foundation of the world as the doctrine of unconditional election teaches. When we compare this verse with
Luke 22:21-22 and
Acts 2:22-23 we can clearly see through God's Word that the death of Jesus was what was determined before to be done. God has a perfect will and a permissive will. God's perfect will is that none perish and all come to repentance (
2 Peter 3:9). However, God has given man the ability to choose and never forces His perfect will over ours with regards to salvation. God's permissive will allows man to reject His love or receive His love. If it was forced, then it wouldn't be true love. The Calvinist is inconsistent by saying that God's will is always accomplished, and that man doesn't have freewill or the ability to choose. God's perfect will is not always accomplished and it is because God has given man the ability to choose.
