Our Father, you are lofty and majestic, greatly to be praised. You are to be feared above all gods, for splendor and majesty are before you, both strength and joy distinguish your throne. Most worthy are you to be extolled in the church. But we are unfit to handle your praise. Apart from your mercy in Christ, we have no hope of acceptance in your sight. We were brought forth in iniquity and in sin did our mothers conceive us. Corruption has plagued our hearts and desperate is our need for grace. We have fallen short of your glory. We have missed the mark of your holiness. We have failed to fulfill your revealed will. We have violated your moral law. We are guilty of crimes against heaven. Our depravity has expressed itself in lustful pursuits, selfish endeavors, and proud attempts to make a name for ourselves. How deserving are we of death and condemnation! Please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Minister: What does every sin deserve at the hands of God?
Unison: Every sin, even the least, being against the sovereignty, goodness, and holiness of God, and against his righteous law, deserves his wrath and curse, both in this life, and that which is to come; and cannot be expiated but by the blood of Christ.
Minister: What does God require of us, that we may escape his wrath and curse due to us by reason of the transgression of the law?
Unison: That we may escape the wrath and curse of God due to us by reason of the transgression of the law, he requires of us repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ, and the diligent use of the outward means whereby Christ communicates to us the benefits of his mediation.
