Paul reminds his audience of the promises fulfilled in Jesus from such places as Psalm 2:7, Psalm 16:10, Isaiah 55:3-4, and finishes with an urgent warning from Habakkuk 1:5. Yes, God is doing a new thing through Jesus, but God has been patiently building to this new thing all along! The law had been at the center of their faith for centuries but in Christ, Paul and Barnabas urged them (and us) to continually rely not on religious rules, but on the gracious love of God. We are invited into God's family not because of what we have done but because of what Jesus has done, for us!
