Text: 1 Timothy 6:3 – 5
IDENTIFYING FALSE TEACHERS
1. What they teach (1 Timothy 6:3)
a. The phrase “Teaches otherwise”
b. They actually teach a different doctrine
c. They will continuously teach errors as if they were truths
2. What their teaching will not come to equate with (1 Timothy 6:3)
a. Wholesome words
b. The words of the Lord Jesus Christ
c. Doctrine which accords with godliness
3. What they are like (1 Timothy 6:4 – 5)
a. They are puffed up with pride
b. They know nothing
c. They are obsessed with disputes
d. They enjoy arguments over words
e. They are men of corrupt minds
f. They are destitute of the truth
g. They merchandise “godliness”!
4. The consequences of false teaching (1 Timothy 6:5)
a. Envy
b. Strife
c. Reviling
d. Evil suspicions
e. Useless wranglings
WITHDRAW FROM THEM!
“From such withdraw yourself.” 1 Timothy 6:5
1. To have no association with them
2. To have no fellowship with them
3. The church must not endorse false teachers
THE GREAT CHALLENGE TO MASTER THE WORD OF GOD!
1. Wholesome words
a. The word of God must be taught correctly
b. True teachings of the Lord’s word will bring about spiritual health and vitality!
2. The words of the Lord Jesus Christ
a. These are the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ
b. The teachings of Christ must be the benchmark for all Christian doctrines!
3. The doctrine which accords with godliness
a. The word of God promotes godliness
b. The study of the word of God correctly must result in godliness
