VITAL LESSONS LEARNT IN LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Life and death (Psalms 20:3)
a. God has sovereign power over life and death
b. God needs only say a word and man’s life on earth ends!
2. The sobering reality of our time on earth (Psalm 90:4)
a. A thousand years is a long time in the sight of man
b. A thousand years in the sight of the eternal God is quite different
i. It is just like yesterday!
ii. It is like a night watch – 4 hours!
3. The fragility of life (Psalm 90:5 – 6)
a. Life can get carried away like a flood!
b. Life goes by as quickly as a sleep!
c. Like is like grass that grows quickly and is soon cut down!
4. The wrath of God (Psalm 90:7 – 9)
a. Moses witnessed the wrath of God
i. God’s wrath consumed Israel for their grave sins against God
ii. Many died because they refused to repent of their sins
b. The sins of man
i. They cannot be hidden from God
ii. Even the secret sins are known by God
c. The sorrow and pain of unrepentant sins against the Holy God
i. The wrath of God unleashed
ii. Feeling the wrath of God each day
iii. Ending each year with a sigh of sorrow and sadness
5. The average lifespan of man (Psalm 90:10)
a. Seventy years
b. By reason of strength they are eighty years
c. Their boast is only labour and sorrow
d. Soon life ends!
THE NEED FOR WISDOM IN LIFE
(Psalm 90:11 – 12)
1. We do not know the power of God’s anger
2. We need the wisdom to fear the Lord
3. We need wisdom to not live in vain!
A HUMBLE PRAYER MADE
(Psalm 90:12)
1. That the Lord would teach us (Cf. Psalm 25:4)
2. To number our days on earth
3. To gain a heart of wisdom
