A Prayer of David
THE ABSENCE OF PRAISE
1. There was a loss of joy (Psalm 86:4)
2. The heart was troubled by the problems in life (Psalm 86:7)
3. The heart was distracted (Psalm 86:11)
A GREAT DESIRE TO PRAISE GOD
1. Praying that God would unite the heart (Psalm 86:11)
a. To learn from Him
b. To walk in His ways
c. To fear Him
2. Praising God wholeheartedly (Psalm 86:12)
a. Praising God
b. Glorifying His name
3. Personal reasons of praise (Psalm 86:13)
a. Recalling God’s great mercy experienced
b. God delivered his soul from death!
4. Bringing up to God the problems that weigh the heart down (Psalm 86:14)
a. The proud who enemies
b. The threat of life from the mob of violent men
c. Those who are ungodly
5. Focusing on who God is (Psalm 86:15)
a. Full of compassion
b. Gracious
c. Longsuffering
d. Abundant in mercy and truth
e. This knowledge of God was revealed to Moses (Exodus 34:6 – 7)
6. Blending the word of God in prayer (Psalm 86:16, Exodus 34:6 – 7)
a. Pleading the mercy of God
b. Pleading for God’s strength to be given
c. Pleading for deliverance
d. Pleading as a humble servant of God
7. Finding assurance in God (Psalm 86:17)
a. Asking for a “Good sign”
b. An obvious indication of God’s presence!
c. That even the enemies would see and be ashamed
d. What will they see?
i. The LORD has helped David
ii. The LORD has comforted him
GREAT CHALLENGES
1. To keep on learning lessons of prayer
2. To seek the Lord openly and candidly about our problems
3. To seek God’s word to guide us to pray meaningfully
4. To praise the Lord wholeheartedly!
