Text: 2 Corinthians 6:11 – 14

SPEAKING WITH OPENNESS OF HEART

1. We have spoken openly to you (2 Corinthians 6:11a)

a. There was candidness

b. There was honesty

2. With openness of heart (2 Corinthians 6:11b)

a. Not afraid to bear his heart to the Corinthians

b. There was a fatherly love for them

REASONS TO SPEAK OPENLY

1. Paul refused to be like the false teachers who spoke behind his back

2. He wanted to clear any misconception against him instigated by false teachers
(2 Corinthians 6:12)

a. You are not restricted by us

b. You are restricted by your own affections

3. He appeals to them as his spiritual children (2 Corinthians 6:13)

a. To not close themselves up to relate with him

b. To be open with him

DO NOT BE UNEQUALLY YOKED WITH UNBELIEVERS
(2 Corinthians 6:14)

1. Do not be unequally yoked

a. This word was taken from the Mosaic laws (Deuteronomy 22:10)

b. The donkey and the ox cannot be yoked together to till the land

c. They are literally “Unequally yoked” and will create difficulties for each other



2. Who are these “Unbelievers”?

a. The rhetorical questions give us a glimpse

i. What fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?

ii. What communion has light with darkness?

b. Features of believers

i. Righteous

ii. Light

c. Features of unbelievers

i. Lawlessness

ii. Darkness

d. Obvious answer to the rhetorical questions above is NONE!

i. Righteousness and lawlessness cannot go together

ii. Light and darkness cannot co-exist

2. The significance of this firm word to the Corinthians

a. There were false teachers who have infiltrated the Church

b. They have come in the guise as a “Believer”

c. The Corinthians could not discern that these people were not genuine believers!

d. They have become “Unequally yoked” with people who were turning them away from the Lord!

e. They have to cease this and return to the Lord to be reconciled to Him!

CHALLENGES

1. To guard our relationship with the Lord carefully

2. To grow in wisdom and discernment
