Abusing the temple or church and persecuting the people of God are two very serious offenses in the sight of God. Both the temple and the people who truly follow the LORD are counted holy by the LORD. They are set apart to His holy name; therefore, they are precious to Him and held ever so close to His heart. For this reason, God will execute judgment on all who misuse or mistreat His temple and His true followers.
In the present Scripture, Babylon is declared guilty of these two horrible sins. As a result, God’s judgment was to fall on the evil empire.
