Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Psalm 128
A song of ascents.
1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in obedience to him.
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours.
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
around your table.
4 Yes, this will be the blessing
for the man who fears the Lord.
5 May the Lord bless you from Zion;
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life.
6 May you live to see your children’s children—
peace be on Israel.
Family is the most precious gift of God. He created it. He constantly blesses it. He supports it. He uses it for the kingdom of God. This psalm is the good proof of God's great care and blessings for the families. Some call this psalm as a family hymn. This psalm, in praising God's blessings upon a family, shows how we could make our family a blessed one. Families have three basic needs to be happy. Those three needs are the economic need, relationship need, and health and safety need. I don't think I need to elaborate on each of these needs. God knows these needs of each family. He wants to fill our families with blessings and prosperity. Think about the first family in the garden of Eden. The had all these needs more than perfectly met. They were just one happy family. Garden of Eden was full of God's wonderful creation. The family was more beautiful than any other even among that wonderful creation. But you know how their happiness got spoiled by Satan who must have been very jealous of their happiness. Since then, it became a daunting task to keep the blessings and prosperity that God originally intended for the family. Unfortunately, it still is a daunting task to build and maintain a blessed family. But thank God. He is not done with the family yet. He wanted to restore and revive the lost blessings and prosperity of the family. How? We see the simple and clear answer to that in today's psalm. Fear the Lord and walk in HIs ways! Be the family that invites the Lord and worship Him. Fear God as He should be feared with honor and respect. Teach and learn the word of God. Make the word of God the lamp unto your feet and the light unto your path. Of course, our family is not perfect and cannot be perfect. God knows it. But if we genuinely do our best to live this way trusting in His grace, you will see the blessings and prosperity passing through from your children to your children's children. Amen.
