The Sermon on the Mount is not a wimpy, hippie flower-child telling us to just be super nice people. That is the popular perception of Christ's teaching, but it is absolutely false.

The Sermon on the Mount is a King sitting down on His throne rendering judgments on those in His kingdom. He is a King who has come to preach good news to the poor, to those hated and despised people who no one will stand up for. A king who rather than lead a horrific, bloody revolution, lead His people in the way of the cross, a way of obedience to God, faithfulness unto death, a way of worship.
