Luke 18:1-8 The Persistent Widow



1. Do you know that you have a choice when your life falls apart? ( ) yes ( ) no
What is the choice? 18:1
=pray or give up
=pray or pass out
What is Jesus’ choice? 18:1
=always pray and not give up
What have you chosen until now?
=pray

2. What kind of man was the judge?
=a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought
=a single judge: by Herod or by Roman
=unjust judge: corrupted
Who can move or change this judge’s heart?
=he himself or money
What kind of life did a widow have in Jesus’ time?
=helpless
=no income, community charity or someone else
What trouble might she have gone through? 18:3
=she became a victim
What did she choose to do? 18:3b
=she kept coming to him with the plea
Why did she go to the judge?
=’Grant me justice against my adversary’
Did she know about this judge’s stubbornness and unjust heart?
=yes

3. What was the judge’s response to her plea? 18:4a
=he refused
What was the judge thinking when he refused her plea?
=no way
What did she do when the judge ignored her plea?
=kept coming
What situation did the judge realize he was facing? 18:5

=he will accept a case
How did the widow move the unjust and stubborn judge?
=persistence
=prayer is the way which we can move God’s heart

What was the result when she had decided to seek justice?
=she received the justice

4. Who was her adversary and what did her adversary do to her?
=we don’t know
Why don’t we know anything about her adversary?
=battle is not with adversary, but with the judge
=when there is problem, it is between I and God

5. Which is harder to get justice by the unjust judge or by the heavenly Father?
=the unjust judge
=it is easier to get justice by the heavenly Father
Will God grant justice to His chosen ones who cry to Him day and night? 18:8a
=yes
Will God delay long in helping you? 18:8b
=It will not be delayed long
Why there is delay before God answers our prayer?
=God is waiting for our hearts which must be changed to receive God’s blessing
What is the result when you decide to seek justice from God?
=we will receive it sooner or later
=if we decide to give up, we receive nothing.

6. What does Jesus say about faith when He comes back? 18:8
