Luke 7:1-10 But say the word and my servant will be healed.


1. Do people obey when you say to go, or come, or do this? ( ) yes. ( ) no.

2. Where was Jesus?
=Capernaum
Who was sick? How was his condition? 7:2
=a servant was sick and at the point of death
When you see a dying person, what do you think and do?
=funeral
What faith did his master have?
=great faith
=Jesus can heal the servant
=The servant was highly valued by his master

3. What military rank did a centurion have?
=100 soldiers were under an authority of a centurion
How did he approach Jesus? 7:3
=elders of the Jews
What did he ask Jesus to do? 7:3
=come and heal his servant

4. How effective was the word from the elders to persuade Jesus to come? 7:4,5
=Elders pleaded with him earnestly, saying “He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue”
How did Jesus respond? 7:6
=Jesus went with them

5. As Jesus was approaching the centurion’s house, what did the centurion feel?
a. What did he do? 7:6
=he sent his friend to Jesus
b. What did he ask Jesus to do? 7:6
=Do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof
c. What was the reason that he didn’t come to Jesus but sent the elders? 7:7
=he is very humble
d. What did he ask Jesus to do to heal his servant? 7:7
=Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.

6. “But say the word, and let my servant be healed.”
a. What did he want to receive instead of Jesus’ physical presence?
=send the word to heal his servant
b. What power did his own word have as a military commander and as a master?
 Go – and he goes.
 Come – and he comes.
 Do this. – and he does it.
 What did he do to have his job to be done? =say the word, delegating through Jesus words
 How did he receive the word of his superior commander?
=Emperor-governor-commander of Legion-centurion
=centurion was under authority

c. What power might he have observed in the word of Jesus?
 Quiet! Be still – then the wind died down.
=Jesus world had a power over action
 Be quiet! Come out of him! – the evil spirit came out of him.
=Jesus word has power over idk
 Be clean! – Immediately the leprosy left him.
 What did his servant need to be healed?
=word of God
d. When he saw the divine power in the word of Jesus, how was he humbled before Jesus?
=he couldn’t go before Jesus
e. Do you see the divine power and authority in the word of Jesus?

7. Why was Jesus marveled at him? 7:9
=not even in Israel have I found such faith
=This centurion can understand who has the highest authority
8. When the messengers returned home, what did they find? 7:10
=The servant was already healed before Jesus
