Luke 13:22-30
The Narrow Door
1. Am I going to be saved? ( ) yes ( ) no ( ) It depends on how I live now.
2. Strive to enter through the narrow door.
a. What question did someone ask Jesus? 13:23
=Lord, are only a few people going to be saved
b. What did Jesus simply answer? 13:24
=Make every effort to enter through the narrow door,
c. What does ‘strive’ (make every effort) mean? How do athletes strive to win?
=strive: from Greek word, athlete who compete in the arena, suffering
=Goal setting mind: preparing in long term, train themselves everyday
=This is the same attitude.
d. How is it like walking through the narrow door?
=a few will go through narrow door.
=a narrow door is Jesus
=I do because Jesus said so
e. How is it like walking through the wide door?
=easy: a lot of people, vast majority of people, easier to walk
Men practice deception on each other. I do be other do it.
Real life
f. What is the destination of each door?
=salvation: the kingdom of God
=guiding to hell
g. Are you walking through the narrow door or through the wide door?
=self-examination
3. A parable of an owner of a house
a. What will the owner (God) do? 13:25a
=God’s authority: it is permanent
b. What will those who arrive after the door is closed do? 13:25b
=try to open the door
c. What will the owner answer them? 13:25
=I don’t know you and where you come from.
=ESV: I don’t where you come from
d. What makes them think that they will enter? 13:26
=we are and drank with you, and you taught in our streets
e. What is the second reply of the owner? 13:27
Why doesn’t the owner know them or where they came from?
=no relationship with Jesus
=first place in their hearts wasn’t Jesus other than Jesus
=They went Jesus to gain their success
=They listen to my voice, I know them, they know me.
What kind of life did they live? (What did the owner call them?) 13:27b
=evildoers, unrighteousness, living Christian life with false sense of security
When will they finally realize that they cannot enter?
= when they knock the door
=the door has been eternally shut
What is their response? 13:28
=weeping and gnashing of teeth
What does this parable deal with?
=timing do not delay
=repent now
Why did Jesus give this parable?
=we should repent our sins.
4. Who were already in the kingdom of God? 13:28
=Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God
Who will be saved and join the feast? 13:29
=People will come from east and west and north and south,
and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God
What kind of life did they live or will they live in this world?
=they went through the narrow door
5. Last to first, and first to last
Why will the last to be first, and the first to be last?
=It is about Jew.
=Gentiles become the first.
=each person: Judas lost, but the rubber received the first call.
=keep our hearts be Holy and humble.
