The Shepherd’s Joy
1. When you see sinners, ( ) I hate them. ( 0 ) I love them.

2. Who were tax collectors and the sinners? 15:1
=Tax collectors: serve the Roman
=The sinners: prostitute who failed to keep the Moses laws
Why did they come to Jesus? 15:1
=tax collectors and the sinners

3. What did the Pharisees and the teachers of the law criticize Jesus? 15:2
=fellowship with Jesus
What kind of attitude did they have toward the tax collectors and the sinners?
=complete barrier between Pharisees and the teachers of the law and tax collectors and the sinners
=religious leaders stayed away from the sinners
In answering them Jesus gave the three parables; the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son.

4. #1 the parable of the lost sheep.
How many sheep does the shepherd have? 15:4
=100 sheep
When do you think the shepherd finds out that one sheep is missing?
=before they returned home, the shepherd counted the numbers of the sheep
Why is the sheep lost?
=sheep is easily lost
What dangers will the lost sheep face?
=wolves and cliff
=wild animals
= if they turn over, they can’t get over it.
Can a lost sheep find its way to home by itself?
=sheep can’t find it
How can a lost sheep return home safely?
=only by the shepherd
What does the shepherd do for the lost sheep? 15:4
=he will leave 99 in the open field and search for the lost sheep
What places will the shepherd search to find the lost sheep?
=water, cliff, holes, rocks and every possible place
What would you say about the shepherd’s efforts of searching for the lost sheep?
=very dangerous, but not important
When he finds the sheep, how does he carry it? 15:5
=he joyfully puts it on his shoulders
When he arrives home, how does he share his joy? 15:6
=he calls his friends and neighbors together
How much money do you think he spends to treat his friends and neighbors?
=more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-righteous persons
=ex) Dr. who saved one from death or sickness. This will make Dr. joyful
What is going on in heaven when one lost sinner repents? 15:7
=there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinners who repents

5. #2 the parable of the lost coin
How many silver coins does the woman have? 15:8
=usually marriage woman has 10 silver coins
What is the incapability of the lost coin?
=it can’t be found by itself.
What does she do when she loses one coin? 15:8
=sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it.
What does she think while she is searching the lost coin? 15:8
=determine mind to find the coin
What would you say about the woman’s efforts of searching for the lost coin?
=no doubt, but confident
How does she share her joy when she finds her coin? 15:9
=rejoice
How much money do you think she spends to treat her friends and neighbors?
=it is about joy
What is going on among the angels of God when one lost sinner repents? 15:7
There is great joy

6. Lost - found - rejoice
What does ‘lost’ mean?
=far away from shepherd,
=Lost person can’t return by Himself
What does ‘repent’ mean?
=return to God
Why does one repented sinner bring more joy than ninety-nine righteous persons?
Why is Jesus eating with the tax collectors and the sinners?
=they are lost sheep
=Jesus embraced the sinners
What is God’s heart revealed through these parables?
=God’s heart is going for saving the lost
=God’s heart
How did the religious leaders misunderstand God?
-very angry to those who are not keeping the laws
-eating and talking with the sinners
-self-righteousness against God
