Luke 8:26-39 Jesus commanded the demons to come out of the man.

1. When you see a crazy man, ( ) I share his crazy acts with others.
( ) I think that he should go to a mental hospital.
( ) I pray for him in the name of Jesus until he is healed.

2. Whom did Jesus meet when He came out of the boat? 8:27
=the Gerasenes: which is opposite Galilee
When does a man become possessed by demons?
=Possession: not in and out, but demons come in and live inside of the person
How crazy was this man? 8:27
=no clothes, and he had not lived in a house but among the tombs
How did the people try to help him? 8:29
=he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles,
but he would break the bonds and be driven by demon into the desert
Why couldn’t chains and shackles keep this man in a house? 8:29
=demon is stronger than human physical strength.

3. What does his action and words to Jesus show?
=What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.
Was his shouting to Jesus the voice of the man or the voice of the demon?
=demon
How did he know the identity of Jesus? 8:28
=spirit knows spirit. Evil spirit knows Jesus who is Son of the most high God.
What did the demon beg Jesus? 8:28b
=do not torment me
Why did the demon know that he was facing a big trouble? 8:29a
=Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.
What power and authority does Jesus have? Mt. 28:18, Col. 1:18b
(Some Christians don’t know this power and authority of Jesus, but the demons know.)
=Mt. 28:18 All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me
=Col. 1:18b in everything he might be preeminent
What is our super weapon against demons?
=Jesus name and Jesus power
=Jesus delegates his power and authority to us
=Those who believe in Jesus name will drive out demon.
=In the name of Jesus, come out of him

4. What did Jesus ask him? 8:30 What does this question signify?
=who is he? Identity
=first step to know who is he?
What did he answer? What was the identity of the man?
=Legion: 1000 demons
=His life was gone and followed demon’s desire.



5. What is the Abyss (the bottomless pit)? Rev.20:1-3
=The Abyss: the deep, the bottomless pit
=Satan locked up in the Abyss-release for a short- judgement (eternal fire)
Why did the demons beg Jesus not to order them to go to the Abyss? 8:31
=demon prison
What did the demons beg Jesus? 8:32
=to let them enter pigs
What did Jesus focus when He gave the demons permission to enter the pigs? 8:32
=pigs (Mark 5, 2000 pigs) 2000 x $300 =$600,000
=man
=Which one is more important money or man?

6. What were the pigs doing at that time? 8:32
=a large herd of pigs was feeding
When the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs;
=pigs became crazy and rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned
What happened to the pigs? What happened to the man?
=crazy and normal

7. What did the herdsmen see and what didn’t they see? 8:34,36 What did they do?
=they saw that pigs ran down into the lake
=they didn’t see spiritual battle
=they went to owners and reported it
What did the people find when they came to investigate the event? 8:35
=man was restored, but they lost money
=man’s life vs money
Why were they afraid instead of being joyful for the recovery of a man? 8:35
=worries about losing another loss
Why did the people ask Jesus to leave? 8:37
=fear of losing pigs

8. Did this man know that the power and mercy of Jesus healed him from the demons?
=demon left and the man recovered his mind.
What shows that his true identity was restored? 8:38
=the man wanted to follow Jesus and serve Jesus
What mission did Jesus give him? 8:39
=Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.
=fully restored and recovered God’s images
9. How can we protect ourselves from demons?
=Demon is spirit which can penetrate our security boundary.
=Demon can go anywhere and control desires.
=In Jesus name, we can rebuke demon and drive out demon.
=In our heart, there is no defense life.
=When ungodly sinful desire grows, we can repel by Jesus name
=No extreme emotion which makes human vulnerable to demon
