Luke 10:25-37
“And who is my neighbor?”
1. What is eternal life? John 17:3
=John 17:3 and this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

2. Question #1 “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
What question did a lawyer ask Jesus? 10:25
=What shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Why did he ask this question? 10:25
=to the test
What did he, as an expert in the law, believe as the way of inheriting eternal life?
=keep every single law

3. “Do this and you will live.”
What did Jesus ask him? 10:26
=What is written in the Law? How do you read it?
What did he answer? 10:27,28 What kind of life is it? Burning love
=Deut 6:5; love God
=Lev 19:18; Love neighbor
=You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
=100% devotion
What did Jesus say about his answer? 10:28
=You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live
What problem of this man was exposed? 10:28
=But he didn’t practice
What should one do when his sin is exposed?
=repent

4. Question #2 “And who is my neighbor?”
Why did he try to justify himself? 10:29
=he didn’t repent
When he asked Jesus; who is my neighbor?, who did he think his neighbor was?
=next door, other lawyers, friends, other Jews and own church members
Did he think that he loved his neighbor as himself?
=yes
5. “Go and do likewise.”
a. From where to where was a man traveling? 10:30
=Jerusalem to Jericho
Height 2300 feet to -1300 feet
=17 miles
What happened to him on the way? 10:30
=robbed, stripped and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead
b. From where to where was a priest traveling? 10:31
=from Jerusalem to Jericho, he was returning to home
What did the priest do when he saw the half dead man on the road? 10:31
=he passed by on the other side.

=No
What kind of heart did the priest have?
=too much
=I am not like you

Why was a Samaritan in the land of Judea?
=722 B.C Israel fell by Assyria
=half and half blood
=516 B.C conflict with Jews
=Mt. Zerizim vs Jerusalem
=500 years hatred in between
How did he find out that the robbed man was still alive? 10:33
=he saw him, he had compassion
What kind of heart did the Samaritan have? 10:33
=compassion
What did he do to save the man’s life? 10:34,35
=He did everything; he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine.
Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him
=one denarii: 12 days for inn.
=two denarii: 24 days for inn staying.
What question did Jesus ask the lawyer and what did the lawyer answer? 10:36
=Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?
What’s Jesus’ definition of ‘neighbor’?
=depth of compassion
What did Jesus do when He saw that you were half dead in your sins?
=Jesus had compassion on us; Jesus offered his body for our sins till we are restored.

6. What must the lawyer do to inherit the eternal life? Jn 5:42, 1Jn 4:8, 1Jn 4:20
=John 5:42 But I know that you do not have the love of God within you.
=1 John 4:8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
=1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar;
for the who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
Do you love your neighbor as yourself?
=we don’t have love, but when we receive love, then we love others
=we have no room for others
How can we have love in our heart? 1Jn 4:10
=1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son
to be the propitiation for our sins.
=we know that Jesus died for my sins
=God’s love reaches in our heart by Jesus
=every person must find ourselves before Jesus
