Title: Do idols matter? Part 5: My opinion!
Greetings in the Precious and Mighty Name of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus!
Text Scripture: Psalm 96:3-6
Psalm 96:3-6
3 Publish his glorious acts throughout the earth. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.
4 For the Lord is great beyond description and greatly to be praised. Worship only him among the gods!
5 For the gods of other nations are merely idols, but our God made the heavens!
6 Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty are in his Temple.

Today we need to talk about the toughest of the idols you will ever face
By way of example of idols I want to challenge us with the truth of the “Idol of own opinion”.
Eina! This really hurts!
This is where the rubber hits the tar!
Chaplain Finn who are you to tell me my opinion may be wrong?
For the record dogmatic theological enslavement is, for me, one of the worst manifestations of this idol
Those trained to be dogmatically enslaved to the doctrines and dogma of your local church or theological seminary
Equally problematic is the slothfulness, laziness and feigned humility that leads to no opinion at all
I wonder sometimes if these are not the types or categories of ‘believers’ referred to in Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV)
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

To be sure the Lord will have the ultimate say in these matters
This should put a whole other perspective on our opinions
It should assist us in realizing that it is only by His grace and mercy that our opinions, actions, life and lifestyle need to be totally and completely conformed to His Word.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV): “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

Without any condemnation, it is in this realization that the seat of power of idols is in the mind, mental, soulish area
Therefore, the greatest battle to overcome idols will be in this area being the mind, mental, soulish area which is the very seat of our own opinion

Prayer
Father God I come before You in the name of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus. Lord, I ask You to assist me in the area of my greatest battle being the seat of my own opinion
Lord, help me to fill my mind with all of Your Word; to be completely surrendered to Your Word; wash me in Your Word that I may reflect Your image in all areas and aspects
To achieve this I put aside the idols of the nations and turn to the one and only true God, always and at all times
In Jesus Mighty and Precious Name! Amen!

Notes:
We need to remain mindful of having been delivered for a very specific reason:
“He brought you out to bring you in” is the best description of the process that leads from sin to righteousness; from darkness to light; from own opinion to the Lord’s norms and standards as contained in His Holy Scriptures. And much, much more!
It is great wisdom to embrace His deliverance which the Word confirms as:
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy mind, soul and strength; and thy neighbour as thyself”
