COP26, starts today and is the 26th annual UN climate change conference. COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and the summit will be attended by the countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - came in force in 1994. This year’s conference is being held in Glasgow – 1-12 November.
It will be biggest summit the UK has ever hosted - many people see it as the most significant climate event since the 2015 Paris Agreement. This event, delayed for a year due to COVID-19, is seen as crucially important as countries will be looking to set out solid plans for reaching the emissions-reduction targets they set five years ago at the Paris conference. COP26 is seen by many as a make-or-break moment for our world.
Each day, this week, we will be focusing on some of the issues that surround climate change and climate justice; using passages from scripture, and songs from the Resound ‘Doxecology’ project. Hopefully, this will also be a call to prayer for us at this critical time.
