After Pastor Dustin covered the Ten Commandments of Chapter 5 last week, Pastor Kevin goes back 40 years in time, to Exodus 19 where the people were being prepared to receive the Ten Commandments from the voice of God Himself while the people congregated at the base of Mount Sinai.
At the time, the people were terrified of God, fearing that they would die because the Holy God was so near them as He spoke from heaven. The people of Israel did not want to hear anymore and instead wanted Moses to be the mediator between the people and God.
Thus it has always been with sinful man and God, and it would have stayed that way had God not provided a New Covenant by which man could come to God by faith and being forgiven of their sin and thus able to boldly come into the presence of God without fear of dying.
The study then goes back to the rest of Deut 5 then Hebrews 4, 12 and Jeremiah 31 as parallel passages making it clear that Jesus is our new Mediator and High Priest of the New Covenant allowing us to have full fellowship with God.
