In this study, we first show a two minute video by Yuval Noah Harari which is alluded to throughout our study:

As a Jew, Mr. Harari’s hatred toward the God of his fathers and God’s laws are compared with Moses’ appeal to the Jews thirty-five-hundred-years ago to Love the Lord their God by obeying His laws which were for their good.

Today, we see the same two camps that all people fit into. Those who hate God and those who love Him. In Moses’ day, the Jews were to enter the promised land while ridding it of all the idol worshiping inhabitants so that the Jews could live in the land and flourish as God’s witness people, if they stayed faithful to God and His laws.

Today, under the New Covenant of Grace, God is using the Church (Jew and Gentile lovers of God who trust in Jesus as their Savior) to be a witness people. Instead of moving into the Promised Land, the Christian is to go into all parts of the world preaching to every soul that Jesus has made a way for us to be forgive and saved from sin.

Instead of defeating enemies in the land, God has given us His spirit to turn away from our former life of pursuing the lusts of the flesh.

Soon the true church will be taken to heaven in the Rapture, and the Jews will again be used by God as His witness people as God fulfills His remaining promises to His chosen people.

The book of Deuteronomy is just as important and applicable to our lives today as it was in Moses’ day. We do well to heed its warnings.
