God the Father did not abandon Jesus on the cross. When Jesus said, "Why have you forsaken me," many at the time misunderstood what he said. Many today continue to misunderstand today. When we see the statement in context, including it's Old Testament associations, we discover that Jesus was not abandoned, but was suffering anguish as the recipient of divine wrath.
