Critics of the Church occasionally complain about the emphasis of genealogy work. They declare the Bible condemns genealogy. For example Marvin Cowan writes.

Zealous Mormons are performing millions of proxy ordinances or "endowments" for dead relatives every year. But the Bible warns, "Neither give heed to fables, and endless genealogies, and contentions, and striving about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain" (I Tim. 1:4; Titus 3:9). Is this a valid criticism?
