What is it to eat at the King's Table? Well it's an expression of generosity from the King. A sense of provision. But on the other hand the recipient is giving acknowledgement, dependance and implying (at least) allegiance.

Cross references in the Old Testament are Daniel 1, Daniel 11:26 and 2 Kings 25.

But this picture of the King's Banquet gives us a deeper understanding of the picture of the banquet in heaven, from Luke 22:29,30, John 14:1-5 and even in Luke 14, when the rich won't come to the banquet, then others are invited in from the alleys, byways and the lanes.

2 Samuel 9: 11-13 So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table just like one of the king’s sons. 12 Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Mica. All those living in Ziba’s house were Mephibosheth’s servants. 13 However, Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem because he always ate at the king’s table. His feet had been injured.
