Like Esther with the king, we do NOT deserve to enter the presence of our heavenly King. Yet, the Bible plainly states how we are to approach God.
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Esther had to approach the king timidly; we are told to come BOLDLY before the “throne of grace”!
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
• We are to have boldness; Esther could have no boldness in her approach to the king or to his throne.
• We have liberty; Esther had no liberty to approach the king
• We have freedom; Esther had no freedom to approach the king
• The Bible even says that we are seated together with our King in heavenly places; yet, Esther can be put to death and banished simply for approaching the king.
• We are NOT under condemnation; Esther was under the sentence of death for simply approaching her king uninvited.
• WE HAVE BEEN INVITED (Hebrews 10:19-23)
• Praise God, we are not under Law but under grace. We are to approach boldly with full assurance and without wavering. Our standing can be no clearer than that description.
• Esther was being a pessimist which caused her to fail to realiize the extent to which she was loved. Many Christians tend to live in the same fashion as a self-protection mechanism. We are less disappointed if we hedge our hopes with pessimism.
• Every believer has already been bidden to the throne of grace.
• We do not need to stand in the courtyard awaiting a special bidding from the king.
• God’s golden sceptre is always extended with no additional invitation.
• Christ is our door and He is always open to those who come to Him.
• Christ died so that we could have life and have it more abundantly; unhindered access is the abundant life. (John 6:37, 10:7-10)
• Those who know Jesus Christ as Saviour are always facing an open door unless the believer closes the door
• Christ promises to never cast us out
• Christ’s love for us will never diminish, falter or fail. Never!
Christ wants to fellowship with you. He wants a personal and intimate relationship with each and every one of the members of His creation.
He wants to give you mercy when you need mercy
He wants to give you grace in time of need
We do not need to wait three days before approaching the throne room.
Remember the Jews around the mountain when God spoke to them? The Jews had to look from afar; we do not have to stand afar off with a distant gaze. (Hebrews 12:18-24)
Do you have any understanding how good you have it?
The believer’s situation is entirely different than Esther’s situation or any of the Old Testament believers.
• Vs 22—we can approach the city of the living God; into the heavenly Jerusalem; walking right past the angels
• Vs 24 straight to Jesus.
Esther had not right or permission to approach her earthly king
Christians can get on their knees and boldly approach the throne of grace to find help in time of need.
We don’t pray to angels or so-called saints. We go right past them to the throne room of God.
Esther 5:3-7 half the kingdom
• As Esther stood in the court, the king beckoned her to approach because she found mercy and grace!
• The king then made a most unexpcted offer to Esther. He offered her half the kingdom. Esther anticipated the worst but the king showed himself merciful and gracious.
• Half the kingdom would have made her joint-heirs with the king. Christians are said to be joint-heirs with Christ.
• We don’t have to ask our king for half the kingdom.
• He has already made us such.
God gave us His Son to die on the cross for our sins.
For those who accept Him as Saviour, there is no good thing He now withholds from us.
• Esther does not know if she is going to get in to see the king.
• If she does get in, Esther does not know if she is going to live or die.
Esther finally makes it in and is asked what she wants. She just says I want you to sit at a banquet that I have prepared.
The last request we read about concerned genocide—the destruction of a whole race of people. The king can’t always trust his advisors with their vested interests and self-exaltation.
Esther simply prepared a meal for her king.
She just wanted to dine with him in order to reveal her innermost secrets to him.
She was interceding on the behalf of others. The best prayers are those you pray for others.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Jesus is not asked for much
• When is it God time?
• When will you focus on me?
• When can I sup with you?
• When can I just enjoy your company?
