The word of the LORD God came to Abram and He promised to be his shield and exceedingly great reward. When Abram wondered how he could know God's promise would come to pass, God cut a covenant with him dependent on God alone. The covenant God made with Abram is fulfilled in the new covenant Jesus Christ established in the Gospel, for our faith in Him is accounted for righteousness.
