Deut 34:10-12
1. Faith in the midst of WICKEDNESS
Vs. 23
1) The CIRCUMSTANCES of the birth of Moses.
The birth of Moses takes place in Exodus 2:1-10
Genesis 1:15-17
Moses discussed two forms of oppression in the reign of Pharaoh.
slave labor (vv. 8-14)
and child extermination (vv. 15-22).
2) The COURSE of action was designed to protect Moses.
Genesis 2: 1-10
Stephen said Moses “was no ordinary child” (Acts 7:20); so did the
writer to the Hebrews (Heb. 11:23).
Moses’ parents defied Pharaoh’s decree and hid the baby (cf. Acts
7:17-20).
He “was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians” and was a
powerful speaker (Acts 7:22).
It is important to see how God was orchestrating these events.
The baby that Hatshepsut finds is drawn from the Nile, so she
names him Moses. And she will make sure he is the next Pharaoh.
We can place them as part of the 18 th Dynasty.
We know this based on 1 Kings 6:1-2
Therefore, Moses was 80 when the Exodus occurs therefore, he was
born in 1526 B.C.
3) It was faith that allowed this mother to CONFRONT her fears.
Vs. 23 and they were not afraid of the king's command.
She believed that God had a plan and purpose for her son. She
knew that she only had a short time to raise him.
Acts 7:22-25
Notice it “came into his heart to visit his brethren.
4) There is a CONNECTION between Moses and his mother seen in an
important instruction.
Deut. 6:6,7
Moses statement CONNECTS the responsibility of teaching and
modeling faith to children.
2. Faith in the midst of WEALTH and power.
Vs. 24-27
1) By faith Moses REFUSED to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
Faith requires us to make some hard choices.
Sometimes it means we say NO to certain things.
-1 He said NO to POSITION
Moses was known by the royal designation “son of Pharaoh’s
daughter
-2 He said NO to PLEASURES
When the people of God were about to enter the promise land they
were warned not to live like the Egyptians or other cultures around
them.
-3 He said NO to POSSESSIONS
The wealth of Egypt at this time was unimaginable.
-4 He said NO to PANIC
Vs. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt
The word “forsook” means to completely abandon. Which he did at
the Exodus.
2) Moses by faith accounted the REPROACHES of Christ greater riches
than the treasures of Egypt.
Vs. 26
-1 He said YES to a personal RELALTIONSHIP with God’s people.
-2 He said YES to the continual REPROACH for the Kingdom.
Vs. 25
Jesus said,
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his
own soul?
-3 Moses said YES to the REWARD of Heaven.
Vs. 26
-4 He said YES to the spiritual REALITY of God himself.
Vs. 27 for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
2 Cor 4:16-18
3. Faith in the midst of WARFARE
Vs. 28-29
1) By faith Moses kept the first PASSOVER.
The account of this is found in Ex. 12:13-23.
The writer is saying that it was Moses who instituted the Passover.
2) By faith Moses PASSED through the Red Sea.
Takes place in Exodus 14
Israel’s DANGER was very great.
Israel’s DELIVERANCE was very glorious.
Ex 14:10-14
