1. The DESIRE of Joshua’s dearest friend.
Vs. 6-15
1) The PROMISE came originally from Moses
Vs. 6
Caleb and Joshua are not just the oldest men left in the nation, they are also unique in their record of faithful devotion and service to the Lord.

2) The POINT that Caleb made was different from the other spies
Vs. 7
The twelve spies are sent to recon the situation in Canaan.
They are away for six weeks, and at the end they return to present a majority report to Moses.
Num 13:27-29

But Joshua and Caleb present the contradictory minority view.
Num 13:30

Num 14:24
And now, at last, the time for the fulfillment of God’s promise to Caleb has come.

3) The PURPOSE of Caleb’s that guaranteed this inheritance.
It is not just what Moses wrote about him.
It is something that is said three times in this text.

Vs. 8b but I wholly followed the Lord my God.

That is the secret to everything that follows.
Their eyes were on the giants, but Caleb’s eyes were on the Lord.
Caleb followed the Lord “wholeheartedly.”
Ps 86:11

3) The PURPOSE of Caleb’s that guaranteed this inheritance.

4) The POWER he had at age 85
Vs. 10-11
His faith, expressed in a trust that God.
It comes through with great clarity in the Numbers 14 account.
All through the years his faith has been in the Word of God and thus in the God of the Word.

Vs. 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day;
It is really a condition of the heart.
You need a passionate love for Jesus Christ.

Why do I say that?
The place that Caleb asked for was called Hebron.
Hebron is the place of special significance.
Abraham purchased a portion of it to bury Sarah.
Most of the patriarchs are buried.
The word Hebron means fellowship, love and communion.
That is what Caleb really wanted.

5) The PLACE of his inheritance
Vs. 13-15

-1 The CHANGE of its name
Vs. 15 And the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim).
So, the name is changed because Caleb dispatched a giant named Arba.

-2 The CAUSE behind that decision
14 because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.

Now to chapter 15
2. The DELIVERANCE of the inheritance of Caleb
Chapter 15:13-19
1) The COMMAND of the Lord to Joshua
Vs. 13

2) The CONQUEST of the sons of Anak
Vs. 14 Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

These were the next generation of those powerful Canaanites who had made Caleb’s co-spies feel like grasshoppers and tremble in fear before them.

3) The CONQUERING of the city was rewarded with Caleb’s daughter as a wife
Vs. 16
With Hebron under his control, he pushes on to Debir and offers his daughter, Achsah, to the man who will lead a successful attack to win the city.
Othniel, his nephew, steps forward to win both prizes (v. 17).
Later Othniel appears in Judges 3:9–11 as the first of the judges, empowered by the Spirit to rule Israel.

4) The CONSIDERATION of Achsah’s request
Vs. 19
