I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land.
Good morning! Here is today’s word of blessings for you.
Psalm 143: 6-12
6I spread out my hands to you;
I thirst for you like a parched land.
7 Answer me quickly, Lord;
my spirit fails.
Do not hide your face from me
or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.
9 Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.
11 For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life;
in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.
12 In your unfailing love, silence my enemies;
destroy all my foes,
for I am your servant.
Today's title is “For I Am Your Servant”
The revelation of God is progressive. In other words, God has shown His revelation increasingly more over time. Some believers might envy the great servants of God like Abraham, Moses or David for their intimacy with God. True, they had a very intimate and personal fellowship with God. They talked to God like a friend taking to each other. Moses even saw God face to face. We all want such intimate fellowship with God. That’s good. But I think that the great servants like Abraham, Moses and David would envy us in some ways too because they didn’t see some great revelation of God like we do today. For example, Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad. (Jon 8:58)” Abraham rejoiced just at the thought of seeing the day of Jesus. Moses and David would have felt the same way. But we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched (1 John 1:1) at apostle John said. Oh how greatly rejoice the great fathers of faith would have been if they had seen what we had seen and touched. Not only that, it seems that the great fathers of faith didn’t have the luxury of the blessings of Immanuel that we enjoy everyday. By the grace of God in Jesus Christ, we are enjoying God’s presence daily. But it wasn’t so before Christ made the grace of Immanuel available to us all. God revealed Himself to the people in previous times of course, but not like He does after Jesus came. It almost seems that the previous people of God had much greater hunger and thirst for God’s presence. Today’s Psalm shows such intense thrist and hunger for God. The Psalmist says, “I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land.” We live in much more blessed time in that regard, right? But still, we need to have same thirst for God to fully enjoy the grace. Living in greater times of grace, many still do not enjoy the grace of God even as much as the believers of the previous time, because they don’t have such intense hunger and thirst for God. Many rather live in spiritual dryness. How sad! How about you? Do you have intense hunger and thirst for God such as the parched land? If so, that’s a blessing. If not, you have to pray for such thirst and hunger for God first. Amen!
