Freedom In The King - John 8:31-38 Freedom in Christ Jesus, Sunday School
I. JESUS SPEAKS (John 8:31-32)
Jesus has disciples and disciples indeed. Which are you? (John 8:31).
The only thing that can set man free from the bondage of sin is God’s Word, the truth (John 8:32; 14:6).
II. A MISUNDERSTANDING EXPLAINED (John 8:33-38)
Living in sin can falsely convince us that we don’t serve it (John 8:33).
Those who constantly sin are in bondage to it (John 8:34).
Servants don’t live in God’s house forever, but the Son and His fellow heirs do (John 8:35).
True spiritual freedom only comes through faith in Jesus Christ (John 8:36).
Our behavior indicates who our father is: Satan or God (John 8:37-38).
In America today, people are divided over what being free means. There are those who claim that the government is infringing on their rights by enforcing safety measures for all Americans regarding Covid-19. Then there are those who are glad that the government is taking the actions they are because it has proven to save lives. But in this week’s lesson, the freedom Jesus was concerned about was being free from sin. The sad thing is that the Jews didn’t realize they were in bondage to sin just like many people in the world today. Jesus could speak about freedom from sin because He spoke the very words from His Father, and God’s freedom leads to eternal life. If you are seeking this freedom from sin, I urge you to try Jesus who will give you the truth that will set you free.
