Why does anyone resist the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit himself is love and He is a beautiful gift to all humankind. The power of the Holy Spirit enables us to be holy, to witness, to evangelise, to work signs & wonders, to love others as he has loved me, to worship & pray in the Spirit - the very power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work within us. At least it is when we do not resist Him. And from that power is activated the full manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit - given for the common good, for the community: words of wisdom, words of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, miraculous powers, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues! Why would anyone resist that?

The Sanhedrin do though - they resist Stephen, anointed powerfully to speak to them, they cover their ears and shout loudly to avoid hearing God speaking - and to stop what they fear will cost them their pride, position and human power - they put to death the cause of it all - even as they had already murdered Jesus.
