God is True. Certify it!
John 3:33
Halifax: 4 June 2017, 10:30 am
Through God’s providence, this week I was impressed with John 3:33 in which John the Baptist says of Jesus: He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.
Dear Congregation, this is a matter of the utmost importance for each one of you…
- that you receive the testimony of Christ and so certify that God is true!
- If you do, you will spend eternity in glory.
- If you do not, you will spend eternity in Hell.
The disciples of John the Baptist were disturbed that Jesus was taking over.
- But John reminds them that his ministry was all about pointing people to Jesus.
John makes it clear that He wants everyone to receive the testimony of Jesus.
- Jesus is from heaven (31) and therefore He truly speaks from heaven (34).
- That is why those who receive His testimony certify that God is true (33).
- However, no one was receiving His testimony (32).
- We are quite adept at rejecting it, even while pretending to seek truth.
- The reality is, if anyone seeks, He will come to the truth.
- There is hope because there is spiritual new birth (3).
- Our problem with unbelief is a moral one (19-20).
- But the Spirit changes us when we are born again so that we receive the testimony of Jesus (33) and so certify that God is true.
This is what I want to focus on today—I want to ask you three questions…
