One important point
* Hosea gives us a picture - that everyone has the opportunity to repent and return to God.

Two important definitions
(1) Repentance - coming back to God for healing and repentance
(2) Penance - our attempt to make ourselves acceptable before God

Three important comparisons
(1) Penance seeks relief while repentance seeks God (Hosea 6:1-2)
(2) Penance is horizontal, while repentance is vertical (Hosea 6:3)
(3) Penance mows the weeds, repentance digs up the roots (Hosea 6:4-6)
