Sometimes later New Testament scripture will fulfil earlier New Testament scripture spoken by Jesus. In Mark 10, we had James and John approaching Jesus, wanting to sit on his right and left hands in the kingdom. Jesus said they didn't know what they asked for, and were they ready to drink of the cup he was going to drink of and be baptized with the baptism that he was baptized with. They both responded yes, to which Jesus responded that they would do this, but he couldn't grant them to sit on his right and left hands, for that was not his to give. How were Jesus' words in Mark concerning James fulfilled here in Acts 12? In Lesson 39 of our study of Acts we learn the answer to this question.
