Jacob, though frequently deceitful, was still a child of God's covenant. He had just deceived his own father and brother and was now on a journey to his uncles for his own safety. One evening the Lord gives him a dream and makes the beautiful promise that He will always be with Him. He will fulfill His promises. His security is not to be found in his own faithfulness but the faithfulness of God. As believers and children of God Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that we have the same perfect promise of God that He will always be with us. Now, that's great news!
