A truly born-again believer of Christ will pray and must pray. Like breath is evidence that the body is alive, prayer is evidence of a person’s salvation in Christ.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prayer is the language of the heart when words are wanting. When the burden is heavy and we struggle to put it into words as we come before God’s throne in prayer, God hears our heart’s cry, understands our needs and will answer our prayer in His perfect time. “...before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
God has given all believers His Holy Spirit to help them with prayer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27] And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only does God the Holy Spirit intercede for us, Jesus our Great High Priest intercedes for us at the right hand of God the Father (Romans 8:34).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prayer is not an oratory speech. Ask simply from God what you need as how a child would ask from his loving father. Ask with the humility and faith of a child; it is your Heavenly Father’s will to bestow blessings upon His own people (Psalm 67:6).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prayer does not have to be long. God has answered the shortest prayers in the Bible. Remember Nehemiah’s spontaneous prayer (Nehemiah 2:4) and Peter’s cry to Jesus on the waters. “...he (Peter) cried, saying, Lord, save me. And IMMEDIATELY Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him...” (Matthew 14:30-31)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do not doubt your Father’s goodness and mercy towards you. The verses in Matthew 7 show us an increasing intensity and persistence that a Christian should have in prayer. First ask, then seek and knock - never give up praying! When we don’t seem to be getting an answer from God, rest assured that God is working in ways we cannot see and He will answer our prayers in His perfect timing. Our duty is to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let prayer be as often as you breathe and let us “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16). Commune with God everywhere at any time, as you wake, walk and work throughout the day.
