The condition of Israel and himself during the years of bondage to the Midianites. Gideon was nothing special but God used him and turned him into a great Man of God. God takes the unremarkable and does remarkable things with them.

1Cor 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
