Today’s Verse: 2 Kings 9:1, 3 (NKJV)
“And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, ‘Get yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead.’ … ‘Then take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, “Thus says the Lord: ‘I have anointed you king over Israel.’”’”
In the Old Testament, kings were anointed with oil as a sign of God’s calling and blessing. Today, we can take that picture and apply it in prayer over those we love. Oil in Scripture represents the Holy Spirit, and God is calling us to pour out His blessing—through our words of encouragement, mercy, and grace—on our spouses, children, family, and friends.
The world is full of criticism, division, and harsh words. But as followers of Christ, we are called to speak life. To bless our loved ones. To say, “May God’s grace be upon you. May you walk in His protection. May His presence surround you today.”
So today, take up the “flask of oil” and pour it out—not literally, but through words filled with the Spirit. Bless your spouse. Encourage your children. Speak truth and kindness to those around you. Let your home and your relationships be marked by the fragrance of the Spirit’s anointing.
