Song of Songs 8:5-7

5
Who is this coming up from the wilderness
leaning on her beloved?
Under the apple tree I roused you;
there your mother conceived you,
there she who was in labor gave you birth.
6
Place me like a seal over your heart,
like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.
7
Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot sweep it away.
If one were to give
all the wealth of one’s house for love,
it. would be utterly scorned.

Today’s title is “The Love Stronger than Death”

The Bible is a book of love. Did you ever ask why? The answer is rather simple. It is because the author of the Bible is God of love. The God who is love created man after His own image. So love is the very foundation of human life. Man cannot live without love. That is why people are so desperate for love. Today’s passage says that life without love is a land without water, namely the wilderness. That was where we were before we met true love which is in Jesus. When sin enters our life, we were driven out of the true love of God into the wilderness. Living in the wilderness, everybody cried out for love. We all were hungry and thirsty for love. I still see so many people are desperately hungry and thirsty for love. They need to find out the true love to free themselves from the pursuit of empty love. In God’s appointed time, came Jesus the son of God who is love. The first thing He did was to go to the wilderness to rescue those who were hungry and thirsty for true love. He poured out His love for those who came to Him. He still opens His arms and holds them in love. This is pretty much the spiritual background of the scene in today’s passage. With the true love in f God restored through Jesus, we can now live leaning on the arms of love every day. God never wants us to lose that love again. So He says “place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm.” He wants us never to lose Him again. The absence of love between Him and we must have been as painful to Him as it was to us. He wants to seal His love once and for all now. How does He do that? With the cross where He died but rose again breaking the grave. Now the true love cannot be taken away or stolen. True Love cannot be sold away for it is sealed with the death of the Son of God. The love has been poured out for you forever. This is how we have the true love of God. As Jesus said, it will never depart from us. How do you appreciate it? How do you treasure it? Our life will be still in the wilderness without this love of Christ. Thank God for it. Rejoice in His true love now and forever. Amen!
