Title: The Good Samaritan
Passage: Luke 10:25-37
Speaker: Kevin Maloney

This familiar passage is the pinnacle of Christian ethical teaching. It shows us what it means to love a neighbor as ourselves. But it also does more. It shows us our need for a Savior and provides the motivation and heart change necessary for real obedience.

Laws for Life - Luke 10:25-28
- In this section, a lawyer who is trying to justify himself and test Jesus asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus affirms his answer that he must love God and neighbor perfectly.
- The law of God is meant to guide our lives, restrain the evil in society, and, most of all, point us to the Savior. How do these commands do all three of these things?
- How do we fall short of understanding this passage if we assume we can make ourselves worthy of eternal life? Might we be like this lawyer who is trying to justify himself?

The Ways of Love - Luke 10:29-37
- In the story of the Good Samaritan, we see much of what active love looks like. What are some of the aspects of active love that you see being carried out by the Good Samaritan?
- How does this guide us in the ways of love?
- How does this show us how we fall short of loving perfectly?
- Think of the love shown to us by Jesus. How did He love like the Good Samaritan?
- Does Jesus loving “in our place” reduce our obligation to seek to obey the commands to love God and neighbor?
