The #Bible says to share with the less fortunate but you're not very good at that? Luke 3:11.
Luke 3:10, 11 And the crowds were questioning {John the Baptist}, saying, "Then what shall we do?" 11And he would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise."
We Christians seem to have greater problems being faithful in one area of our lives versus another. How are you doing when it comes to helping the less financially fortunate?
For those that are excited about doing things that please God, here John gives you some direction regarding a type of change that God is looking for in the heart and life of a person.
Although the following is not true of 100% of people, a common thread among people is to think of one’s self first and foremost. This is also true of many Christians.
He that hath two coats or extra food is to share.-
We in His image. God shares his wealth with us; we unto others.
This was simple and practical. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil and selfishness is one sure sign that one loves money and maybe just a little bit more than one loves Jesus.
Repentance from selfishness was to be conquered not by religious emotions only, but by acts of unselfishness.
“Oh wow, look at that poor guy. I’m going to pray for him right now.”
How about giving him some money right now?
Selfishness is a habit. Starts with perceived protection of assets, good stewardship, but often degenerates into selfishness.
You may have already discovered that if you want to break a bad habit that you cannot just stop doing that thing but you are best to actually replace that habit with habitually doing the opposite of the bad.
So if you are normally selfish and do not share with others less needy, but now you want to please God, then you replace the selfishness that gave you a blind spot to those with financial need with two distinct traits:
1. when the Lord gives you an opportunity to help someone then do it instead of ignoring it.
2. actually seek out opportunities to help someone in need.
Not okay to be neutral; be active in doing good to those in need
Replace the BAD HABIT with your GOD HONORING habit.
