Passage: Luke 9:18-27
Speaker: Cody Wilbanks
Confession of Peter - Luke 9:18-20
- Jesus asks the disciples who the crowds think Jesus really is. But then, He makes it personal, and asks them who they think He truly is. Peter confesses that He is the “Christ of God.”
- Is there moment in your life you made your “confession” about Christ, recognizing Him for who He really is?
- Is someone’s belief about Christ really central to their personal “confession of faith?” Why or why not?
Coming Death and Resurrection of Jesus - Luke 9:21-22
- Jesus explained to the disciples what the future held for Him. He would suffer, be killed, and be raised back to life.
- Why do you think the disciples were surprised, then, when it really happened?
Why would Jesus rebuke Satan when Peter rebukes Jesus for saying He would die (Matt. 16:22-23; Mark 8:32-33)?
Call to Follow - Luke 9:23
- Jesus tells any potential follower of His that they must, like Him, deny themselves and take up a cross daily.
What does Jesus mean when He says we must deny ourselves? What does that look like in your life?
- What does Jesus mean when He says we must take up a cross daily? What does that look like in your life?
- How does the gospel equip us to follow Jesus in this way?
- In what ways might someone soften the message of Jesus in sharing the gospel?
Consequences & Encouragement - Luke 9:24-27
- Jesus explains the consequences of following Him or not following Him. He then gives a brief encouragement for His disciples.
- How does the thought of eternity in the kingdom of God encourage your heart as you take up your cross today?
