So these two angels are sent to Sodom. If there are 10 righteous people to be found they will not destroy this city along with Gomorrah. The first person the encounter is Lot. We find him sitting in the gate of Sodom. Oh how he has strayed. He left his home with Abraham, he was blessed because of Abraham. His flocks and herds multiplied to the point they had to separate. From that time on, Lot forfeited God’s blessings. He traded them for the world.
Abraham gave him the choice to go wherever he wanted and he first looked toward Sodom, then we found him in Sodom when Abraham had to rescue him, now we find him in the gate where he evidently has power and influence both in business and probably politically. Once you take the first step toward sin, you are soon engulfed by it. This is a warning for us today. Be very careful not to think that we far enough away from sin that we can flirt with it at a safe distance. It is a very short stretch from looking upon it to falling into it. It’s like the side mirror on your car where it says objects are closer than they appear. Sin is also closer than it appears. Like a title wave or an avalanche, you can’t out run it.
