New Testament - Different Means Sharing Gospel - Luke 19:11-27 - “Are We Ready for His Return?”
“Are We Ready for His Return?”
Luke 19:11-27
1. The Nobleman departs until he RECEIVES the kingdom
Vs. 12
There is a postponement until the kingdom comes.
The question is whether they would be faithful or not.
Historically a situation like this had already happened and in this neighborhood.
Archelaus had built a great palace in Jericho where Jesus is telling his parable. He was the son of Herod the Great and he was the tetrarch, ruler over this area.
Phil 2:7-11
Jesus went away but will return in absolute rule and authority.
2. The Nobleman gave equal RESPONSIBILITY to his servants
Vs. 13-14
1) The servants were given an EQUAL amount.
Each of the servants received an amount of money equal to three months’ wages for a laboring man
He then gave these instructions,
'Do business till I come.'
NKJV
Notice that this parable should not be confused with THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS.
2) As servants we are ENTRUSTED with the gospel.
Look back at verse 9
Luke 19:9-11
Paul repeatedly would speak of being “entrusted with the Gospel” (1 Thessalonians 2:4; cf. 1 Timothy 1:11; 6:20; 2 Timothy 2:2).
Eph 5:15-17
"making the most of every opportunity"
The Greek suggest that there will be special opportunities or moments.
There are opportunities to share the gospel.
During different times:
o People are more open when going through difficulties in life.
o People are more open when they see us going through difficulties in life and are experiencing the grace of God.
-During different seasons:
o Some people are more open during Christmas.
o Some people are more open at Easter.
o Some people are more open because of world events.
Different means in sharing the gospel.
The primary way is for believer to personally share with friends and family.
3. The nobleman was REJECTED by the citizens.
Vs. 14
Jesus will not be accepted by most people. If we choose to be part of his kingdom, we need to understand rejection.
John 1:11, John 15:25, John 19:14-16
4. The Nobleman RETURNS and everyone will be held accountable.
Vs. 15-27
1) The faithful servants give their REPORT.
Vs. 16 Then came the first, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned ten minas.'
Notice the servant is not taking credit.
The reward was based on being responsible for very little.
2) The unfaithful servant will be REBUKED.
Vs. 22
It is a basic principle of the Christian life that wasted opportunity means loss of reward and possibly loss of the privilege of service.
He called him “a hard man,” using the adjective austeros meaning “strict” or “exacting”—
1 Corinthians 3:12-15
The unfaithful or wicked servant doubted the character of God.
Vs. 21
His emotions or belief system was based on faulty information.
How is your heart today?
Do you understand how gracious God has been toward you?
A. W. Tozer
"Nothing twists and deforms the soul more than a low or unworthy conception of God"
3) The faithful servants are given a REWARD.
Vs. 24-27
Their rewards astound us.
They got entire cities!
2 Corinthians 5:10, Hebrews 6:10, 1 Corinthians 15:58
4) The enemies receive their RETRIBUTION.
Vs. 27
Jesus concludes with this sobering statement about those who had rejected him and did not want to enter into his kingdom.
