Psalm 106 illustrates the painful truth that even God's chosen people are prone to wander. The 5th story the psalmist references is from Numbers 14 & Deuteronomy 1, the story of the 12 spies in the Promised Land.

What God called good, the people called bad and it had dire consequences. The people's unbelief of God fueled their rebellion against God.

God has a place of rest & promise for every believer, but it can only be entered into by faith. The old man – the one who’s still slave-minded to sin and wants to go back to the old life – can’t enter into God’s promises. Unbelief and self-reliance won’t lead to God’s rest and abundance. Only trusting in the One True God, having faith in His promise, and obeying His voice gains a person the Promised Land.
