Psalm 89:40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

These are God's word and are directed at his people Israel.

Isaiah 5:5-6 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: *I will take away the hedge thereof*, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: [6] And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; *but there shall come up briers and thorns*: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

The crown of thorns worn by Jesus is emblematic of him bringing all that was meant for sinful man (in this verse, sinful Israel), upon his own head. A crown of death vs a crown of life.... laid waste... no hedge for protection (Job 1:11)... a place void of water (Zec 9:11). How could he rescue his people except he enter the place of their abode? And this goes beyond entering flesh... but entering death.

The just reward for sinful man was poured upon Christ. Now, when we abide in him, there is no hedge or stronghold that sinful man can hide behind. For in him, the sinful man IS PUT TO DEATH, and therein we rejoice.
